German-style Bratwurst Hot Dog

This German-style hot dog features gourmet Bratwurst sausages, bakery-fresh crunchy bread rolls and a homemade coleslaw using market-fresh produce.

Recipe

One way to get the taste of a region when you're RVing is to visit local produce markets and pick up some fresh in-season fruit, vegetables, small goods, condiments and more.

Ingredients (Makes Four)

4 Bratwurst sausages

4 hot dog buns

German mustard

A wedge of white and red cabbage, shredded

1 carrot, grated

4 baby dill pickles, finely diced

¼ red onion, finely diced

A few flat-leaf parsley sprigs

COLESLAW DRESSING INGREDIENTS

¼ cup mayonnaise

2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar

Pinch of dried dill

Squeeze of lemon juice

Method

1. Grill the Bratwurst sausages over a flame grill and heat the (cut) hot dog rolls in an oven.

2. Make the coleslaw (about 250 grams in total) by combining the cabbage, carrot, chopped parsley, onion and pickles.

3. Put all the dressing ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine, then pour over the coleslaw and mix through.

4. Make the hot dogs by filling the rolls with coleslaw, followed by the Bratwurst; then add German mustard or condiments of choice. You can also top with shredded cheese and place the hot dog under a grill for a few seconds until the cheese has melted.
