Western Australia Travel Guide for Food, Culture and Coastal Escapes

Western Australia travel offers road trips, food and wine in Margaret River, rich First Nation's culture, coastal cruises and holiday parks from Esperance to Ningaloo for the perfect getaway.

Western Australia travel blends culture, food, coastlines and holiday parks.

Western Australia is a road tripper's paradise, from the Kimberley in the north, where you'll find the oldest and largest wilderness landscapes in the world to the pink lakes and vast white sand beaches and turquoise ocean of Esperance in the south. Here, we explore some of the new experiences in this vast, diverse region of Australia.

WA Cultural Attractions: Murujuga World Heritage Site

The ancient Murujuga Cultural Landscape has become Australia's newest UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. Located on the Dampier Archipelago and Burrup Peninsula in WA's Pilbara, Murujuga is one of the most significant cultural landscapes on Earth. Its red rock escarpments are home to an estimated two million petroglyphs, dating back more than 50,000 years. Murujuga is only the second UNESCO site to be recognised for its Aboriginal cultural values. The listing recognises not just the extraordinary rock art, but the ongoing living traditions of the Ngarda-Ngarli, their spiritual connection to place, and cultural knowledge passed through generations.

Margaret River Food and Wine Festivals

From underground opera in ancient caves to feasts under the stars, Pair'd Margaret River Region x Range Rover is back this year with 30 events. Running from 20 to 23 November, the event will be headlined by Argentine chef Francis Mallmann in a fire-focused feast taking place at Wills Domain. Other highlights include the return of Pair'd Beach Club, with DJs and seafood in a unique beachside setting; Nature's Table long lunch; and the Pair'd Wine Dinner series will bring together Michelin-starred chefs and sommeliers for exceptional dining experiences in Margaret River.

Western Australia Dining and Entertainment in Perth

To celebrate its 10-year metamorphosis into a health and wellness, retail and entertainment hub, The State Buildings will hold an exclusive program of food, wine, music and art events. Kicking off in October, headline events include Cédric Grolet's week-long afternoon tea residency at Cape Arid Rooms; a Torno Subito pop-up at POST; a fine dining collaboration between Wildflower and Singapore's acclaimed Pangium; and an intimate performance by the Australian Chamber Orchestra string quartet. In addition, Margaret River's first vineyard, Vasse Felix, will host a wine pairing dinner. There's also live music in Postal Hall, a Sodashi skincare session with founder Megan Larsen, and the Long Chim Night Markets.

Secret Picnic Adventures in WA's South West

Part foodie trail, part problem-solving adventure, Secret Picnic Adventures at Busselton lets foodies follow digital clues to collect local delights which have been carefully curated to showcase the best of the region's food. Along the way, you'll take in the town's key attractions. The tours are available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with a Dunsborough tour launching in time for spring 2025.

Western Australia Coastal Cruises

Expedition cruise operator Coral Expeditions has launched a series of new coastal adventures, including a six-night exploration of the Margaret River Region in 2026. The Western Australia tour includes visits to Busselton, Margaret River, Cape Naturaliste and Augusta. Leave the van behind and spend a few days at sea taking in the local wildlife with time to explore food and wine trail tours and enjoy dark sky nocturnal experiences. The WA itineraries start in October 2026.

Western Australia Holiday Parks and Stays

If you want family to come and join you while you park up in a powered or unpowered site in a picture-perfect locale, this is the place to do it. RAC Esperance Holiday Park has expanded to offer more accommodation options in the coastal town of Esperance/Kepa Kurl following a $9.5 million expansion project completed in December 2024. The park now has more barbecue facilities and open areas, along with a range of new accommodation options, including up to 21 one- to three-bedroom cabins, plus powered caravan sites.

Ningaloo and Coral Bay Stays

In the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo/Nyinggulu region, the Ningaloo Coral Bay holiday village in Coral Bay (which has powered and unpowered sites) recently opened four Bayview Villas, perfect for multi-gen stays. The three-bedroom villas are self-contained, with kitchen, bathroom and new furniture. Adding to this will be 16 two-bedroom villas, expected to be completed in 2025.
