Walk This Way Along The South Coast

Experience one of New South Wales' Great Walks on the three-day Murramarang South Coast Walk. Stretching 34 kilometres through Yuin Country, the trail winds past secluded beaches, dramatic sea cliffs and towering spotted gum forests, with opportunities to spot lyrebirds, sea eagles and the park's famous beachside kangaroos. With camping, cabin-based and guided options available, it's an accessible adventure for walkers of all experience levels.

In the spotted gum forests of Murramarang National Park, the air is filled with birdsong, one call after another, neatly spaced and harmonised like a choir. It feels too ordered, almost conducted, to be real. And it is. Just a few steps from the walking trail, a superb lyrebird is hard at its wooing work, tail fanned wide, running through its repertoire of pirated hits.

I’m hiking the three-day, 34-kilometre Murramarang South Coast Walk, one of New South Wales seven Great Walks. Trailing along the state’s south coast in Yuin Country, the walk beckons for its beaches and coastline, but even now, just over a day along the path, I’m just as enthralled by its forest and the life within.

It’s a walk that’s approachable for almost any hiker, regardless of experience, since it can be booked as a camping or cabin-based journey, softening the nights and the weights you need to carry on your back.
