Visitors to Tropical North Queensland will be able to enjoy the beauty of the Daintree with minimal exertion following a multi-million-dollar upgrade of the Jindalba Boardwalk. The boardwalk at Cow Bay, just north of the Daintree River en route to Cape Tribulation, has opened to visitors in time for the 2026 peak tourist season. Part of a $4.5 million infrastructure development, the 650-metre boardwalk takes visitors up close to the oldest continuously surviving tropical rainforest in the world.
The boardwalk takes its name from Jindalba, meaning ‘foot of the mountain’ in local Eastern Kuku Yalanji language. It crosses three watercourses, snaking between ancient fig trees and giant king fern fronds, before arriving at a viewing platform over the creek.
Keep your eyes peeled for buff-breasted paradise kingfishers, musky rat-kangaroos and cassowaries – the second-heaviest bird in the world. The boardwalk is partially accessible to wheelchairs and prams and there are toilets and picnic facilities by the carpark.
