"Best in market" for CMCA Members
The name Ken Tame has been synonymous with recreational vehicle insurance in Australia for more than 40 years, and now the industry veteran has publicly endorsed the CMCA Insurance portfolio, describing what is being offered to members as “best in market” when it comes to price, product and overall value for money.
Mr Tame, who owned and operated Ken Tame and Associates and personally serviced the CMCA membership from 1990 until 2016, says his assessment is based on decades of experience in the insurance industry and a detailed understanding of the needs of Australia’s recreational vehicle community.
“I have taken the time to evaluate what is currently available in the market, and in my view, what CMCA Insurance is offering its members in terms of price, product and overall value for money is excellent,” Mr Tame said.
“Having spent 40 years directly in this industry, and having owned the business that serviced CMCA members for more than 25 years, I understand just how important the relationship between an insurer, its customer and the organisation representing those customers really is.”
Experience and knowledge matter
Mr Tame said experience counts when choosing an insurance provider, and CMCA Insurance – supported by NM Insurance – has that in spades.
“The wealth of knowledge and experience behind CMCA Insurance, underpinned and supported by NM Insurance, cannot be underestimated. In fact, I believe it is an imperative factor,” Mr Tame said.
“Members should have comfort in knowing that they are dealing with a reputable business, supported by people who understand the insurance industry and, importantly, understand the recreational vehicle market and the needs of the people who participate in it.”
Mr Tame said experience and longevity were particularly important considerations in an industry where customers place significant trust in their insurance provider.
“Insurance is not simply about issuing a policy and collecting a premium. When something goes wrong, customers need to know that the organisation dealing with their claim understands their vehicle, their lifestyle and the circumstances they face. Experience matters, particularly when members need someone to stand beside them.”
Mr Tame expressed concern about claims by some businesses about the length of time they have been operating within the recreational vehicle insurance market.
“Since I sold my business in early 2016, I have seen other businesses claim they have been around for 30 years. That is simply not the case,” he said.
“The two subsequent companies that took over the portfolio after I sold my business have each operated for a maximum of around five years. I think it is important that consumers understand the history and experience of the business they are dealing with rather than simply relying on a claimed association with the past.”
NM Insurance, the specialist insurance business CMCA partnered with to create CMCA Insurance, has operated across Australia and New Zealand for 21 years. More importantly, it already serves the needs of more than 30,000 caravan and motorhome customers across Australia, bringing deep sector experience, specialist capability and an established understanding of the RV customer.
A product built for CMCA members
Mr Tame believes CMCA Insurance has recognised the importance of delivering a product specifically suited to the recreational vehicle community, rather than treating RV insurance as simply another category of general insurance.
“The recreational vehicle market is unique. These vehicles are often people’s homes, their means of travelling Australia and a significant investment. The insurance product needs to reflect that.
“Having assessed the CMCA Insurance offering, I believe members are receiving a very competitive combination of price, coverage and value. In my opinion, it is one of the strongest offerings currently available to the RV market.”
Mr Tame is encouraging CMCA members to consider switching their policy to CMCA Insurance.
“I would ask every CMCA member to consider CMCA Insurance as your preferred supplier. You don't have to wait until your existing policy expires – you can transfer across at any time.
“Take the time to obtain a quote, compare the product and consider the overall value being offered. I believe members will be very pleasantly surprised by what CMCA Insurance can provide.”
A proud association with CMCA
Mr Tame also reflected on his longstanding relationship with CMCA and his pride in the organisation and its achievements.
“I am very proud of CMCA and what they have achieved over many years from humbling beginnings to turmoil in the middle to where they are today,” Mr Tame said.
“I have watched the club grow and evolve, and I have always understood the important role it plays in representing and supporting the recreational vehicle community.
“I genuinely believe even greater things will occur for CMCA in the near future. The organisation has a strong foundation, an enormous membership and an exciting future ahead.”
Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA) CEO Richard Barwick welcomed Mr Tame’s endorsement, saying his experience and history with the organisation made his comments particularly significant.
“Ken Tame has an extraordinary history with our organisation and with recreational vehicle insurance in Australia,” Mr Barwick said.
“He personally understood the needs of our members for more than 25 years and has spent five decades in the insurance industry. For someone with that level of experience to assess the market and publicly endorse the CMCA Insurance offering is a significant vote of confidence.”
Mr Barwick said CMCA Insurance was established with the interests of CMCA members at its core.
“Our members deserve an insurance product that understands their lifestyle, provides genuine value and is backed by organisations that understand the recreational vehicle sector,” Mr Barwick said.
“We are extremely proud of the CMCA Insurance offering, and Ken Tame’s endorsement reinforces our belief that we are delivering a quality product that represents excellent value for our members.”
