Built For Two: The Best Small RVs for Couples

Whether you’ve succumbed to the allure of van life or waved goodbye to the kids and are taking on the open road alone, these RVs are small on size but big on style and comfort – and simply perfect for couples.

6 Perfect Compact RVs

It’s just you and your significant other, ready to hit the road and explore this vast country of ours. Now, all you need to do is find the perfect vehicle for moving around and spending time among stunning landscapes. Here, we’ve come up with six different RVs to suit just about every couple.

Sunliner Ekho: small in size, big on ideas

New to Sunliner’s range is the Ekho – at just 6.2 metres long, it’s the shortest motorhome on the Australian market, with innovative design features making the most of limited space. It’s available in four different layouts, each one with an electric drop-down bed and a new feature, a DryZone split ensuite with a hard door that divides the shower from the toilet.

Another excellent addition to the modern design is a door at the back of the motorhome, which not only allows for easy loading but, when opened, gives you the feeling of being in a campervan, where you can enjoy the view.

The Ekho is available with an LDV or Ford Transit Cab chassis.

The Sunliner Ekho makes the most of every centimetre — the clever DryZone split ensuite separates the shower from the toilet with a hard door, while the queen bed and kitchen sit just steps away.

Avida Trek: compact, capable and affordable

Built on a Fiat Ducato XLWB chassis, this affordable campervan makes the most of its compact size. At 6.4 metres long, this is an easy-to-drive RV with excellent inclusions: air-conditioning, a kitchenette with LPG cooktop, smart TV, reverse camera, bathroom with window, and Starlink-ready connections. Plus, you can choose to add heating, an external shower, GPS tracking and alarm system.

Make a little extra room for dining or working with a swivel table extension, and you’ll never have to worry about catching yourself on a cupboard. All of them, and the drawers, are handle-free and soft-close. Plus, there’s plenty of storage if you’re planning on a longer trip. For travellers with extra gear – a bike trailer or boat, perhaps – the Diversion LX has a towing capacity of 2250kg.

Crusader CRV Gladiator Storm: the off-road couples caravan

Anyone embracing a compact travel lifestyle should check out Crusader Caravan’s CRV range. Crusader CEO Serge Valentino says each model delivers all the essentials like flexible sleeping arrangements, a well-equipped kitchen, shower and toilet, and thoughtful storage. “It’s a compact version of a fully featured van.”

He recommends the CRV Gladiator Storm, one of Crusader’s off-road vans. “It’s easy to tow and comes with flexible bedding that converts from queen to dual singles, plus all the comforts you need for weekend getaways or longer journeys.”

At just over seven metres long, the Gladiator Storm can even include a flexible office space with a desk for those embracing remote work.

Cool Beans Camper: a handcrafted van life gem

If you’re short on space to park your RV, this retro option could be the answer. A compact 4.5 metres long, it packs in plenty of features, including a full-sized queen bed. Completely handmade in Fremantle, the camper includes plenty of storage, USB charging points and, at the back, a full gourmet kitchen with bench, sink, two-burner stove, 60L fridge/freezer, both fresh and greywater tanks, drawers and storage cupboards, power outlet and plenty of lighting.

The whole lot is fuelled by an iTech Smart Power System, tailored for Cool Beans. Its lithium battery requires little maintenance, is much lighter and longer-lasting than lead-acid batteries, and provides almost all of its capacity as usable power.

Thinking you might like to head off the beaten track? The Cool Beans camper also comes in an off-road model.

Jayco Silverline: luxury in a compact couples caravan

Jayco’s Silverline is a luxury model, available in a compact size (just under seven metres long) and just right for two adults travelling together.

“For couples seeking premium touring comfort, this caravan offers large lithium battery capacity, multiple solar panels, genuine leather seating, and high-end interior finishes,” says Jayco product innovation and sales manager Scott Jones.

Plus, the Silverline comes in two models: Touring, for travelling on sealed roads, and the Outback, which is suitable for rougher terrain.

This caravan feels like a little slice of home. Sleep in comfort on a queen-size Tempur mattress, relax in the seating area (there’s a choice of European leather), cook up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen, and clean up in the bathroom with its fibreglass shower. Plus, it has a single touchscreen for monitoring the caravan’s systems, including battery and water levels.

Latitude Element: the ultimate couples motorhome

After a big day of adventure, you need a luxurious, comfortable place to recharge. The Element  is Latitude’s top-of-the-range RV with everything you could need in a home away from home.

“Latitude Motorhomes focuses on being the very best motorhomes available,” says the company’s co-founder Ben MacLean. “Our designs are targeted specifically at couples, resulting in less compromise and more features, comfort and quality than any other brand.”

At 8.6 metres long, with a 4.5 metre slide-out, it’s the biggest RV in our selection, so great for longer trips. There is ample storage, as well as quality, lightweight cabinetry, an induction cooktop, Bosch combo oven, multizone audio system and indoor and outdoor TVs.

“Basically, everything is standard already,” says Ben. “Maxed-out batteries, solar and the like are all the things that others would usually have as add-ons, but you could choose to add a composting toilet and long-range fuel tank.”
