Unveiling the Winnebago Odyssey

Time for an upgrade? The new Winnebago Odyssey is here and she's a little bit special, writes Malcolm Street.

The new Winnebago Odyssey 40i has landed in Australia – and it's impressive.

Winnebago, part of the thl group, has some very exciting news for motorhome buyers. The first of the Odyssey range, the 40i, was unveiled at the NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow.

The 40i is part of a nine-model range in three distinct series. There's something for everyone, too, with both car and Light Rigid (truck) Licence models available. The Odyssey is very much a trans-Tasman model – designed in Australia and New Zealand and built in the latter by Action Manufacturing. Action, Australasia's largest vehicle specialiser, is part of the thl group, manufacturing well-known brands such as KEA, Maui and Britz.

Motive power

The familiar base vehicle is an Iveco Daily 50c-18. That allows for a GVM of 5,200kg and plenty of interior space and storage capacity. Iveco's 132kW turbo diesel is smooth and comfortable to drive. It comes with all the latest safety features and driver comforts such as an eight-speed automatic gearbox, adaptive cruise control, airbags, a multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and fully adjustable cab seats.
