Plan Your Spring Getaway to Floriade

Has the cool weather left you longing for a springtime escape? Well, it’s time to plan your trip to Canberra and experience the beauty of Floriade: Australia’s Biggest Celebration of Spring!

This year's Floriade promises a kaleidoscope of colour.

This year's Floriade theme, ‘Art in Bloom’, promises a kaleidoscope of colour as one million blooms transform Canberra’s Commonwealth Park into a vibrant canvas of colour and creativity from 14 September to 13 October.

Embrace the theme and tap into your artistic side by participating in workshops on painting, sketching, photography, floral design and bonsai, where you can craft your very own masterpiece.

Visit the on-site gallery and be inspired by the work of local and national artists, attend fascinating talks, browse the market stalls and wander through the beautiful flower beds with designs inspired by interpretations of architecture, painting, music, literature, sculpture and film.

In one of this year’s highlights, see Australia’s favourite gardener, Costa Georgiadis, take to the Floriade main stage on Saturday 28 September to share his love of nature and the joy of gardening.

Along with a vibrant program of free entertainment on offer, you won’t want to miss the special ticketed family-friendly events in the new Kazador Tent including ‘A Kind of Magic’, ‘Circus Extravaganza’ and ‘Dr Hubble’s Bubble Show’. Each show promises an enchanting and joyful performance that will delight the whole family.

Amidst the entertainment, you’re invited to spread out your picnic rug and relax with a tasty bite to eat and a delicious local beverage. From mouth-watering Italian by Occasioni by Agostinis to tasty French pastries from L’epi Bakery … there’s a flavour for every preference.

You’ll also be able to sample local brews in the BentSpoke Brewing Beer Garden, enjoy wine from the Canberra Region in the Canberra District Wines’ Wine Garden and Cellar Door, or treat yourself to a Floriade-themed cocktail at the Underground Spirits Gin Garden.

Don’t miss the return of the beloved Dogs’ Day Out on Sunday 13 October and prepare for an adorable day of dog-specific retail vendors and activities that are sure to delight both you and your furry friend.

You’ll also have a chance to take home your own piece of Floriade and support local charities at the Great Big Bulb Dig on Monday 14 October.

NightFest is also returning for four captivating nights from 3 to 6 October. See Commonwealth Park illuminated with vibrant colours and enjoy an incredible program of live music including Karise Eden, Sunday Lemonade, Camino Gold, Wallabindi and the RMC Rock Band, among others. The event will also feature roving performers and a variety of high energy entertainment.

The Kazador Tent will also host the adults-only (18+) ‘Kiss Bang Cabaret’ during NightFest. This risqué, silly and hilarious show perfectly combines comedy, circus, burlesque and cabaret. Tickets are on sale now from NightFest tickets.

Beyond the gates of Floriade, look out for vibrant bursts of colour planted by Floriade Community members throughout Canberra’s suburbs. Over 100 schools, community groups and organisations have planted more than 300,000 bulbs and annuals to spread the colour and joy of Floriade – so keep an eye out for these beautiful displays during your travels. Or head to Historic Lanyon Homestead to visit Floriade’s Satellite Site, featuring a garden celebrating the work of Sidney Nolan and a full program of activities.

And as you’re exploring Canberra, keep an eye out for the local businesses, tourist attractions and the national cultural institutions who are joining in the spirit of Floriade with Floriade-themed food, cocktails and visitor specials on offer as part of ‘Floriade About Town’. Check the website for the full listing of participating businesses.

We look forward to seeing you at Floriade, Australia’s Biggest Celebration of Spring!
