If you love combining road trips with delicious food and wine (not while you’re driving of course), then you probably already know that New South Wales is packed with culinary gems. While destinations like the Hunter Valley, Orange and Mudgee have long been foodie favourites, there are a number of up-and-coming regions offering unique flavours and local produce waiting to be explored. So, if you’ve been there and done that, here are six up-and-coming food and wine trails to consider for your next RV road trip through NSW.

#1. New England: Cool Climate Wines and Local Flavours

Start your adventure in the historic town of Tenterfield, 700 kilometres north of Sydney. This region’s cool climate conditions have resulted in some distinctive wines. Begin your tasting tour of these at Zappa Wines, known for its applauded wines and home-grown vegetables and beef. Their cellar door offers an ideal spot for a tasting or a picnic among the vines. For a more intimate experience, book an appointment at Splitter’s Swamp Vineyard to sample their shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and merlot.

There’s only so much you can drink without feeling the consequences, so for something more solid in your stomach head south towards Armidale and visit Deano’s Springwater Smoked Trout for fishing and fresh trout. You may also like to stop by The Super Strawberry near Glen Innes for old-fashioned milkshakes and locally picked fruit.
