Undoubtedly, we weren’t the first to compare the misty, fern-filled winter surrounds of Tasmania/lutruwita with something Jurassic.

Winter is an unusual choice for a Tasmanian campervan adventure. It’s genuinely wild and undeniably cold. We knew that going in, but there’s also a reason visiting western Tasmania in the off-season should be on every traveller’s to-do list.

The crowds are non-existent, the light turns dramatic and golden, and the landscape transforms into something you simply don’t experience in summer. Mist drifts across glassy lakes, wombats graze on crunchy grass at dawn and, if you're lucky, you'll wake to a light dusting of snow. One morning, we had to second guess whether it was actually real.
