Now I know for many of you the solution to winter driving will simply be “Cairns” and in that case, read no further. But for those of you stuck in more southerly climes there are some cold-weather considerations for your vehicle, and those become more important if you are thinking of trips to alpine regions.
Dress for winter
The first thing to take care of is yourself. Cars are lovely, warm, wind-free environments, but if you are stopped and have to get out that changes very, very quickly so work on the layer principle hikers use; lots of thin layers you can vary at will including an outer, waterproof shell.
